Some more life drawing pictures.

I'd say these classes are helping me out a lot by the way of teaching me how to portray the human body in various ways and using different techniques to do so. These were particularly fun in that I used a scribbling technique to form the body, much like one of the techniques suggested in 'How to draw Comic Books: The Marvel Way'.

  1. Hi Tom, I'm Tom too!

I've been assigned to be your 'mentor' for the year. It's nothing drastic but I'm here to provide extra assistance if you having a question that may need answering and you dont quite know who to ask. It can be anything really, Maya help, academic writing help, how to use print services etc. Just write an @ Tom blog post and I'll endeavour to help out.

I'm the GTA for the course too, so I happen to be in the Baseroom all day Monday and Thursday (Tuesday and Wednesday I'm only in sporadically as those are the days I do my Masters course). You can usually find me sitting in the corner by the baseroom office.

    :-)

    Hey Tom,

I'm worried about your engagement with the course and its expectations. There is no OGR on here as specified - and very little Unit 1 related work. You'll be contacted by Jackie Andrew to arrange a tutorial with me so we can discuss your situation and I can ensure you fully understand your responsibilities to the course and submission criteria etc.

  3. I've been somewhat confused and overwhelmed these past couple of weeks about what it is exactly I need to do and complete by when. If during the tutorial with Jackie we could arrange what it is specifically I need to do, that would help a lot. Right now it just seems like a vague: "sketch some of these whenever for the project, do some drawing in Photoshop, go to these sessions to learn Maya, write notes about things."
I'm normally used to being set specific tasks and use a sorted time-table of when to do them by. I just need help with organization.

  4. Okay Tom,

I think you're struggling with structuring your workload - project management. Independence and self-directed study is the 'character' of degree education - and yes, it can be a big jump from what you're used to. It sounds to me as if you may need a bit more support in that area, and its certainly something we can explore.

But - as a guide, please refer to the brief - the guide of content for your blog, for example, is VERY clear about what you need to be involved with - for example 'a minimum of 50 thumbnails' or 'research for both visual/written aspects of project' - indeed, Tom, I'd suggest there is enough clearly communicated 'structure' for you to be getting on with - and, let's face it, there is not a huge amount of work on your blog, which means you're not using it effectively to enter into discussion about your ideas. Can I suggest that you complete your influence map? That you post your introduction to your essay? That you complete the 50 thumbnails, and also that you complete your Online Greenlight Review as requested. See this link for the info:

  5. Hi Tom,
I have trouble organising my work too, and we share Lee as our LSA so maybe we can have a session together and share some ideas.

This is the list I'm using, as I finish something I highlight it yellow and when its done and on the blog I colour it green. Might help you!
